Brand Info Shortly after leaving the family company in 1980, Geoff Hardy established Pertaringa, which has since continued to produce some of McLaren Vale's finest wines. The name Pertaringa means 'belonging to the hills' and originates from the local Kaurna indigenous language.

Story No second fiddle, the Understudy is a stylistic contrast to our Rifle & Hunt Cabernet.

Vintage Spring and summer were cooler than normal with above average rainfall and the 2017 vintage happened much later than usual. The combination of those factors and dry weather for most of the harvest resulted in higher yields and excellent quality across regions.

Nose This Understudy takes the lead role with vibrant aromas of black cherries and blackcurrants.

Palate The palate is beautifully well-balanced with notes of chocolate and berry fruit, complemented by firm tannins.

Food Pairings Try with a marinated lamb and chargrilled vegetable pizza with goat cheese and rosemary.
