In 1980, Geoff left the family company, Thomas Hardy & Sons, to make his own way in the Australian wine world. Today, Wines by Geoff Hardy is made up of three South Australian wineries founded by Geoff - Pertaringa in McLaren Vale, K1 by Geoff Hardy in the Adelaide Hills and Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy / GMH sourced from a variety of premium regions across South Australia.

Geoff Hardy established Pertaringa shortly after leaving the family company in 1980. Since then, the Pertaringa vineyards in the foothills behind McLaren Vale have continued to produce some of the region's finest wines. The soils are enriched from the hills above and the cooler climate, further tempered by the sea breezes off St Vincent’s Gulf, sets the scene for high quality wine grapes.

The name Pertaringa means ‘belonging to the hills’ and originates from the local Kaurna indigenous language.

The cellar door, nestled in the foothills of McLaren Vale, is beautifully set amongst the gum trees with magnificent views and outdoor picnic facilities.

In 2012 and 2014, Winestate Magazine named Pertaringa and Wines by Geoff Hardy as its Australian Winery of the Year. Australia’s most prominent wine writer, James Halliday, has also rated Wines by Geoff Hardy as a 5 red star winery, a top rating only awarded to 10% of wineries in his Wine Companion.

In keeping with the Hardy tradition of innovation, generosity and a love of the Australian terroir, we’re proud to offer you our Pertaringa range of wines.

Since establishing the Pertaringa brand in 1980, Geoff has continued to produce some of the region’s finest wines from the vineyards in the foothills of McLaren Vale.
